Donald Shearer

Donald Blaine Shearer, 88, of Butler passed away Friday, March 11, 2022.

He was born in Prospect, on Nov. 8, 1933, to the late Blaine and Lois (Kennedy) Shearer. He always asked for a moment of silence when passing his family's home and his place of birth.

Donald graduated from Butler High School, Class of 1951. He attended Grove City College before he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Greenland, as a weather man during the Korean War. After he returned to Butler he worked with his family at Shearer Insurance Agency until his retirement. Donald loved God and his country. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He had a clever sense of humor; was caring, compassionate and honest with others; enjoyed watching sports; reading historical books; and completing crossword puzzles daily.

Donald was the beloved husband of Edna Gail Murphy for almost 62 years; father of Beth Shearer and David (Christina) Shearer; brother of Richard (Catherine) Shearer and James (Carol) Shearer; grandfather of Blaine Shearer and Cory Shearer; and brother-in-law of Nancy Shearer and Roger Catt. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Shearer and Louise (Robert) Crawford; brother, Robert Shearer; and in-laws, Connie Catt and Robert Watson.
