Charles "Charlie" Alexander Stitt, 85, passed into the presence of the Lord peacefully on March 1, 2022, surrounded by his family at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Born Dec. 1, 1936, in Massena, N.Y., Charlie was the son of the late Charles L. Stitt and Sylva Howe Stitt. In 1951, he and his family moved to Glenshaw, and he graduated from Shaler High School in 1955.

After graduating from high school, Charlie attended Leigh University, where he studied metallurgical engineering and graduated with a B.A. in applied science (1959) and a B.S. in metallurgical engineering (1960).

Charlie served in the U.S. Army Reserve for a number of years.

In 1960, he began his career for Armco Steel as a metallurgist, and retired in 2001 as an executive for AK Steel.

He met his wife, Ruth, at Allegheny Center Alliance Church in Pittsburgh, and they were married on Aug. 11, 1962. Ruth passed away on Jan. 17, 2021.

Charlie, like his wife, had a lifelong interest in missions. They made three trips to a Middle Eastern country to promote the Gospel and to assist missionaries in the area. He was a longtime member of the Community Alliance Church.

Charlie had a zest for life and never met a stranger. He was always available to help, advise, share a joke, or say a prayer with his family and friends.

He was an avid golfer, biker and photographer. He loved traveling the world with his family. Most recently, he traveled with his son to Tanzania on a safari.

He was very active in his community. He was a member of the Butler Country Club, Butler Symphony and Butler YMCA. Charlie enjoyed serving in many different roles at both the Butler Symphony and the Butler YMCA.

Charlie is survived by a daughter, Lori (Gary) McCoy of Butler; a son, Charles (Anne) Stitt of Portage, Ind.; two grandchildren, Ethan McCoy of Butler and Paul Stitt of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a sister, Patricia Truell of Williamsville, N.Y.
