Miller Minutes: Weekend Events
As a kid growing up in Center Township, I remember complaining endlessly about there being “nothing to do in Butler” on a weekend. Looking back, I’m happy to say that statement is completely untrue, since I spent the past weekend attending the Butler Symphony Orchestra concert and seeing “The 39 Steps” at Butler Little Theatre. I can’t say enough good things about both experiences, and it is my hope that more members of the community will rally around arts organizations as they emerge from a difficult season.
“The 39 Steps” continues its run Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If you want to see a hilarious show with a phenomenal cast, don’t wait to purchase tickets. They tend to go fast!
My alma mater, Grove City College, will be staging its production of Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and March 18 and 19. The play is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. To reserve tickets, visit tinyurl.com/ADHtickets. If you keep an eye out, you might spot me in the audience.
Butler Art Center’s latest exhibit, “This Community is Our Home,” opened to the public Tuesday, featuring artists from Butler and surrounding counties. Opening receptions will feature the artists and light refreshments at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. The show can be viewed until March 30.
Those interested in attending the Harmony Museum’s Harmoniefest on March 19 can purchase tickets on the museum’s website, HarmonyMuseum.org, or by calling the museum (724-452-7341) Tuesdays through Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. Dinner, a wine and cheese reception, and historic presentation on the Harmonist settlers by Tom Nesbitt are included with the price of admission.
The Audubon Society will give classes on the history of maple sugaring, and how you can collect and make your own syrup at Saturday at Maple Madness at Buffalo Creek Nature Park, 154 Monroe Road Sarver.
Classes begin at 10, 10:30, 11, and 11:30 a.m. and 12, 12:30 and 1 p.m., and registration is required. The event is entirely outdoors with masks and social distancing required. Dress for the weather.
