Edward Johnson

Johnson

Edward Johnson, 73, of Cabot, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022.

Ed was born on Feb. 23, 1948, and was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Noble) Johnson.

He graduated from Knoch High School in 1966 and from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1970, with a degree in art education.

Ed taught elementary art at Armstrong School District for 38 years. He had a passion for making a difference in the life of each child, and shared this through his love of art.

Ed married the love of his life, Carol (Pflueger) on Sept. 19, 1970, and had celebrated over 51 years together.

Ed lived a life of service to his community, his church, his family and most importantly, his Savior.

Ed was one of the original founders of Knoch Area Soccer Association, and later served as president. He was a dedicated coach and referee for many years. Ed served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school director and elder for Faith Lutheran in Butler, and was currently serving as an elder for St. Luke Lutheran in Cabot. Ed also volunteered his time as a Trail Life USA leader. He was honored with the Lumen Christi award from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod as volunteer educator of the year.

Ed loved his family with his whole heart. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ed was known for the heartfelt and loving handmade cards that he made for each of his children and grandchildren on their birthdays. He loved to support his grandchildren and could be found at music concerts, hockey games, baseball games and dance recitals.

Ed was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, and loved to watch the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins play. Ed loved to read and garden. Ed was also known for his quick wit and his one liners that could leave a room in stitches.

Ed was a man of strong faith. Despite his physical struggles in this world, he never complained, but rather enjoyed each and every minute he had with his family. Ed always knew that he would spend eternity in the loving arms of his Savior, and we rejoice in knowing that he is home.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21

Surviving are his wife, Carol (Pflueger) Johnson; his son, Gregory (Denice) Johnson of Fairview Park, Ohio; his daughter, Jennifer (Rick) Lawrence of State College; and seven grandchildren, Josie, Ella, Brayden, Luka, Lilly, Olivia and Jack.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Walter and Thomas Johnson.
