Joseph Meyer

Joseph John “Joe” Meyer, 88, of Butler, passed away on Jan. 4, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 6, 1933, in New Castle, and was son of the late Joseph W. Meyer and the late Rose Meyer.

Joe graduated from New Castle Area High School in the Class of 1951.He worked as an industrial engineer at Castle Rubber in East Butler.Joe was drafted shortly after he and Betty were married and served in Germany in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.He was a member of the VFW.Joe enjoyed fishing and bowling. His favorite destination and vacation spot was Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. Joe was an avid “500” card player.He is survived by one son, Timothy L. (Kathy A.) Meyer of Ormond Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Cheryl A. (Gary) Shields of Prospect; and one grandchild, Autumn D. Meyer of Erie.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cearfoss Meyer, whom he married on April 6, 1953, and who passed away on May 26, 2018; one daughter, Jody E.
