Bad clock management leads to Bills fans disappointment

When will it ever end? The long-suffering fans of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills took another kick to the head — or maybe it was a stampede of the big furry creatures Sunday in the playoffs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Thirteen seconds away from victory and a shot to get back to the Super Bowl in focus as well as a chance to exorcise old demons — and they went to sleep.

Clock management is not a strong practice in Pittsburgh either, but you don’t kick the ball through the end-zone in that position. You make them take a few seconds off the clock. And you hold at the line of scrimmage on the first scrimmage play to take off more time, so they can’t get into field position.

The Bills’ coaching staff must have started celebrating after the touchdown because they certainly quit coaching. The two teams had tremendous and evenly-matched talent. Due to injuries, the game should have gone to the woolly mammoths, but Kansas City stayed focused and did exactly what they had to do in the final 13 seconds.

No one on their bench or in the coaches’ skybox gave up and conceded to the New Yorkers. The players deserved better. We can’t say the fans deserved better because they were given a complete effort by the players and the opportunity to see one of the great playoff games of all time, and certainly the most exciting final two minutes of a playoff game ever.

But it’s just a game and the sun will come up again tomorrow, although you may not feel it in Buffalo until April 2, and then maybe the game will have been forgotten, the suffering ended and fans can call it an early April Fool’s joke.

Buffalo fans are used to disappointment, aren’t they? At least it wasn’t decided by Wide Right.
