Butler sex offender guilty of failing to report to state police

A Butler man deemed to be a sexual offender under Megan’s Law was found guilty Thursday in the Butler County Common Pleas Court of a felony charge of failing to register with state police.

Deandre Toney Moore, 40, was found guilty of failing to register with state police, failing to verify his address and failing to provide accurate registration information in a non-jury trial by Judge Kelley Streib. A sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.

Butler city police filed the charges in November after receiving notification from the state police Megan's Law section that Moore was not living at the home on First Street that he had listed as his residence on Nov. 13, authorities said.

A detective contacted the landlord of the home, but the owner said the defendant did not live there. Two tenants who lived at the home also told the detective that they did not know Moore. Police said they called the cell phone number that was included in the Megan's Law contact information for Moore, but they learned the number was no longer in service.

Moore was found to be a Tier II sex offender and required to register with state police for 25 years after he pleaded guilty in 2017 to a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault filed in 2015 in Philadelphia. Records showed that he was sentenced to 11½ to 23 months in prison followed by three years of probation.

He is being held in the county prison in lieu of $20,000 bail on a charge of terroristic threats filed in January 2021 by county detectives for allegedly threatening his former girlfriend during a phone call from the county prison. The case is pending in Common Pleas Court.

In addition, he is awaiting a decision from the state Superior Court on his appeal of the 27- to 54-month prison sentence he was given after a jury found him guilty in May of charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance. He was given credit for having served 662 days in prison. City police filed the charges in August 2018.
