SV stops Butler

Raiders dominant in girls basketball win

Seneca Valley received balanced scoring and its defense stifled visiting Butler as the Raiders earned a 64-41 girls basketball victory Tuesday night.

Jess Bickart led the way with 17 points for SV (8-5, 5-2), Olivia West tallied 13 and Chloe Leonard 10.

Justine Forbes scored 11 points for the Golden Tornado (7-6, 3-4).

Karns City 35, Clarion 28 — Abby Callihan’s 11 points helped lift the Gremlins over visiting Clarion Wednesday night. In a low-scoring affair, Karns City watched seven players tally buckets. The Bobcats were within four points at the end of each the second and third quarters, but the hosts held them off in the final stanza.

Boys Basketball

A stingy defensive effort powered Slippery Rock to a 60-29 home victory over Wilimington on Wednesday night.

The Rockets’ Dylan Gordon tallied as many points in the first half (12) as the Greyhounds did as a whole. Gordon ended up pacing the hosts with 17 total points, while Brady Prementine and John Sabo chipped in with 13 and 12, respectively.

Moniteau 62, Venango Catholic 36 — The Warriors hit the road and made sure to bring their defense, too. The Vikings could only manage one point in the first eight minutes, allowing their guests to jump out to an early lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. David Dessicino and Ryan Jewart both scored a dozen points for Moniteau. Only four players would get on the board for the hosts.

Clarion-Limestone 83, Union 69 — The Knights led by three after the first frame, but the Lions ran away with this one by outscoring their hosts, 65-48, over the last three quarters. A half-dozen players knocked down a trey for Clarion-Limestone, who saw five shooters post double digits.

Union’s Caiden Rainey led all scorers with 20 points, but was held without a basket in a third quarter where the visitors pulled away.

Kyle Grasha scored an early goal, but Butler took a 5-1 loss to Latrobe earluier this week.

Brody Simko and Parker Worsley assisted on the Golden Tornado goal. EJ Delaney made 26 saves in goal.
