Two die in Route 28 crash

Two people died as a result of Monday's crash on Route 28 in North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County.

Michael Gargett, 44, and Mara Reilly, 46, both of Pittsburgh, died after crashing around 8:30 a.m. Monday near mile marker 36, according to a news release from Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers.

The 2008 Pontiac G6 was heading north, when it swerved to miss a car on the shoulder of the road, according to Myers. The driver, who was not specified in the release, lost control and rear-ended an International Commercial Box Truck that also was stopped on the shoulder.

Myers pronounced the two dead at the scene.

“The causes of deaths were blunt force trauma to head and abdomen,” the release said.

Weather conditions and speed are considered to be a factor. Gargett is expected to be autopsied Tuesday.

The Coroner's office was assisted at the scene by state police Kittanning, Kittanning Ambulance and West Kittanning, East Franklin and Saxonburg volunteer fire departments.

State police did not have a report on the crash available as of 8 a.m. Tuesday.
