Annual list for Mr. Claus
Dear Santa,
Tonight is your night, of course. Safe travels.
While you are out and about, please take care of this list for me. As always, it is much appreciated.
To MIKE TOMLIN, Steelers head coach: A conventional win, where the offense moves the ball and everything. Maybe even a halftime lead.
To MIKE SULLIVAN, Penguins head coach: A healthy lineup. Not that he’s needed one lately.
To ERIC CHRISTY, Butler head football coach: A rematch with McDowell, this time minus the raining icicles and perhaps on a true neutral field.
To COOPER BAXTER and COLIN PATTERSON, Butler 3-sport athletes: Proof positive that baseball is their right choice for college. Indiana (Pa.) University would benefit from that as well.
To SHAWN LUTZ, Slippery Rock University football coach: A few more Henry Litwin-type guys on his roster.
To JOE GENCO, Butler Eagle news deskee and devoted Buffalo Bills fan: A big bottle of his favorite beverage to help deal with the impending disappointment Buffalo sports fans have come to know so well.
To 99.9 percent of NFL FANS: A Tom Brady-less Super Bowl.
To BEN ROETHLISBERGER, Steelers quarterback: Better decision-making skills than he demonstrated when deciding to return this season.
To BRENDAN HOWE, Butler Eagle sports reporter: Tickets to college football’s national championship game (only if it involves Michigan). Otherwise, give him a life-sized Jim Harbaugh poster.
To DEREK PYDA, Butler Eagle sports reporter: The AFC North title for the Steelers, followed by a few playoff wins ... Hey, Christmas is a time for miracles.
To the PITTSBURGH PIRATES: Speaking of miracles ... OK, Santa, stop laughing. Can you at least halt the loss total at 99 this time?
To DARLENE ENRIETTO, my wife: The opportunity to meet Steph Curry, Drew Brees and Cole Tucker face to face. I’m sure she can add to this list, but let’s not get greedy.
To JEFF MESSER, Slippery Rock University baseball coach: Clear skies and a fair shot at getting into postseason play.
To BRAD DITTMAN, Union/A-C Valley football coach: The rights to write a book entitled “How To Get The Most Out of What You’ve Got.”
To SCOTT STONER, Butler wrestling coach: A high school girls mat program and a crop of wrestlers overall who match his drive and determination to continue building the sport in this community.
To ETHAN MORTON: Butler graduate and Purdue sophomore basketball player: Productive playing time and a national championship.
To ALL OF US: A COVID-free world and blessed, joyous times with family and friends this holiday season.
