BC3 working with FBI
Butler County Community College is cooperating with the FBI to investigate a ransomware attack that struck the institution late last month.
IT staff discovered that certain devices connected to the college’s network had been encrypted by a ransomware program Nov. 24. The college initiated a response plan, isolating devices and shutting off certain systems to contain the ransomware attack. The college then contacted a third-party forensic firm, which is assisting the college with its investigation.
BC3 is now focusing on restoring all services needed by students.
Non-teaching staff returned to work Monday.
Because of the ongoing investigations, the college cannot provide further information about the ransomware attack.
