Hip hop help: Group sets concert fundraiser
The leaders of the Butler Hip Hop and Rap Community started having monthly concerts, typically at the Butler Art Center, to give local residents a place to go for Saturday night entertainment.
This Saturday, the nonprofit organization is having a concert at the Butler American Legion, where they will collect donations of nonperishable food for the VA hospital.
Everett Brandon Roy, founder of Butler Hip Hop and Rap Community, said in addition to being a hub for local music, he wants the group to make an impact on people in need.
“One goal is to provide a safe platform for people to get their music out there,” he said. “We are donating to the VA hospital, and have been doing the food drive for about two months.”
According to Roy, Butler Hip Hop and Rap Community started Nov. 18, 2019, so the Saturday show is also an anniversary celebration. He said the number of people attending the shows has grown this year to be about 40 people per week.
There will be a cover fee at the door Saturday — $10 for adults, $7 for college students, $5 for high school students, and free for anyone younger as well as veterans or people who need a place to go.
