Annual turkey dinner served at Karns City

Kayla Smith hands Ciara Leasure a takeout Thanksgiving meal Wednesday at the Communities That Care dinner at Karns City Area High School.

KARNS CITY — Karns City Communities That Care held its seventh annual Thanksgiving dinner at Karns City Area High School on Wednesday.

Over the course of two hours, the cafeteria at the high school quickly filled up with community members of all ages who came to enjoy the meal. By the night's end, more than 500 meals were prepared and served.

Kayla Smith, executive director of the nonprofit organization, said this year the group provided dine-in and takeout options for attendees. Last year, dinners were limited to takeout due to COVID-19.

“We're looking forward to another great year,” Smith said. “We're looking forward to a fun night and celebrating the holiday.”
