Jeremiah Village a wonderful asset to community

If you saw the author’s initials on this editorial and were expecting pointed sarcastic comments aimed at politicians and would-be politicians (if they could ever fool enough people to get elected), you may be disappointed.

But we threw that shot in to give you a little morning jolt of satisfaction.

Today we want to point out the wonderful act of charity, hope and kindness done by Glade Run Lutheran Services (GRLS).

On Monday, Nov. 8, the GRLS officially opened Jeremiah Village in Zelienople.

Taking the name very appropriately from the Old Testament Book of Jeremiah in the Bible, Jeremiah Village is designed for and dedicated to persons needing hope for the future, unlike most of us. The intent of Jeremiah Village is to foster a safe and inclusive neighborhood, or “village,” for persons with autism.

While inclusive of the specific needs of those with autism, Jeremiah Village is meant to be a complete neighborhood that factors in other things besides autism, such as income and personal backgrounds.

Not an overnight dream of any one person, Jeremiah Village has been 10 years in development and remains focused on raising hope for all.

The community room at the facility has been dedicated to long-time servant of Glade Run, Rev. Dr. Charles L. Lockwood, who summed up the position of Glade Run in the words, “This is a place of hope, a place of safety, and a place of community.”

We are proud to have yet another special place in Butler County added to the list of purposeful places that are intended and dedicated to the betterment and inclusion of all people.

Jeremiah Village goes well beyond being just another living space for people but reaches into the realm of truly inspired by faith and the Word.
