Ex-Pirate McCutchen released by Phillies

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies declined club options for next season on outfielders Odúbel Herrera and Andrew McCutchen on Wednesday.

McCutchen, signed as a free agent in December 2018, hit .237 with 47 homers and 143 RBIs in three seasons in Philadelphia. He is a free agent.

Herrera hit .274 in six seasons with the Phillies. Herrera, who made the All-Star team in 2016, was suspended for the remainder of the 2019 season following a domestic assault incident with his girlfriend in May.

McCutchen, 35, spent nine years with the Pittsburgh Pirates, one in San Francisco and the end of a season with the New York Yankees before signing with Philadelphia.

He has 1,826 career hits, 270 home runs and 197 stolen bases. McCutchen hit .279 with 28 homers and 88 RBI in 2017, his last year with the Pirates before being traded to the Giants.

While with Pittsburgh, he played in five All-Star Games, won a Gold Glove and was named National League MVP in 2013.
