Woman pleads guilty to disorderly conduct

A Butler Township woman pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of disorderly conduct, while other charges alleging she made false claims that the father of her daughter physically abused the girl were withdrawn.

Leah Alison Frey, 38, of Lyndora pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct, while a felony count of endangering the welfare of children and a misdemeanor count of false reports of child abuse were withdrawn.

The county public defender's office and state police negotiated the plea agreement, avoiding a preliminary hearing that was scheduled for Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Kevin P. O'Donnell in Butler Township.

Police filed charges in July after learning Frey made at least seven allegations of abuse against the father between May 13 and July 27, and determining that the allegations were unsubstantiated, according to charging documents.

She took the child to multiple hospitals, including one in Ohio on more than one occasion, but doctors found no signs of abuse, according to charging documents.

A therapist Frey took the girl to told police she appeared to show signs of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a relatively rare behavioral disorder affecting primary caregivers. The syndrome causes a person to seek attention by seeking medical care for exaggerated or made-up symptoms of a child in their care.
