SR girls soccer team rolls, 6-1

Slippery Rock's girls soccer team overwhelmed visiting Grove City, 6-1, at Troy-Alan Stadium Wednesday night.

On the Rockets' Senior Recognition Night, Amanda Lewis got things started with a goal seven minutes into the game.

Eve Miller, Emma Hays, Hillary Burtner and Olivia Rock added first-half goals to put Slippery Rock up 5-1 by halftime.

Hannah Plunkard capped the scoring in the second half.

Butler 3, North Hills 0 — The Golden Tornado (4-0-2, 10-0-2) received goals from Ella Rekich, Jessica Mohney and Sydney Patterson.

Chloe Weiland tallied a pair of assists and Vanessa Drohan had one.

Mackenna Yaracs made five saves in the shutout. Butler hosts Seneca Valley Tuesday.

North Hills (4-9) was shut out for the third time in four games.

Boys Soccer

Jacob Callihan and Adam Smith both scored in the first half in Karns City's 2-0 win at West Shamokin.

Myles McCully and Colson Ritzert recorded the assists.

Luke Yasika had two saves in net for the Gremlins (9-1) to earn his sixth shutout of the year.

Kiski Area 4, Knoch 1 — Caleb Oskin scored the Knights' lone goal, off a free kick by Jared Cushey.

Knoch (6-5-1) plays Thursday at Freeport.

Girls Tennis

Knoch's sophomore doubles duo of Emily Greb and Lindsey Greb advanced to the title match at the WPIAL Class 2A tournament, the first three rounds of which were held at Bethel Park High School.

The sisters were seeded No. 1 and received a first-round bye. They beat South Park's Haley Spitznagel and Layla Gillis by a score of 10-2 in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinal round, the Grebs dispatched Montour's Madilyn Rimbey and Peja Cruise in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

They will face the winner of the other semifinal (Beaver's Chloe DeSanzo/Fiona Rubino vs. Sewickley Academy's Kirsten Close/Roshni Thakkar) at 1 p.m. Thursday at North Allegheny High School.

Knoch's other doubles team of Ava Santora and Jade Nether won a first-round meeting, 10-2, over Burrell's Caroline Dynka and Jillian Perry.

Santora and Nether then bowed from the tournament with a 10-0 loss to Sewickley's Close and Thakkar.
