Scoop caught up in football picks, not admiring fall foliage
There’s a hint of red, yellow and orange in the leaves. Soon, a colorful canvas of foliage will dominate the landscape.
Yes, even at this time of the year, I do find time to think about more than football. But this is not the hour to lose myself in the wonders of Mother Nature.
I’m in the midst of a great campaign — 9-2 last week and 46-9 for the season. I feel like the odds are against me, that I’m bound to come crashing down with a bad week or two.
I try not to think too long about any game. I look at the matchup and almost always go with my first impression.
Here are my impressions of Week 7.
Union/A-C Valley at Keystone — A Thursday Night Special in Knox. The Panthers enter the game undefeated, but will taste defeat for the first time in 2021.
Score: Union/A-C Valley 27-14
Westinghouse at Butler — The Bulldogs are another undefeated team and this will be a tough challenge for Butler.
But the Golden Tornado are playing too well right now for me to pick against them.
Score: Butler 24-18
Canon-McMillan at Seneca Valley — The Raiders are an angry bunch after taking a 35-0 loss to Central Catholic last week.
The Big Macs pay the price.
Score: Seneca Valley 31-16
Knoch at Mars — The Knights picked up a win and much-needed confidence by defeating Indiana last week. They continue to trend in the right direction.
Score: Knoch 17-14
East Allegheny at Freeport — The Yellowjacket defense will put the clamps on the Wildcats.
Score: Freeport 28-10
North Catholic at South Park — North is playing dominating football and the Eagles (no relation) will do little to stop them.
Score: North Catholic 37-12
Kane at Karns City — KC is coming off its only loss of the season and it took an incredible passing performance to beat them in the final minute.
The Wolves have no such ability.
Score: Karns City 39-14
Moniteau at DuBois Area— Nothing really stands out about the Beavers. But in this matchup, they have more players ... and bigger ones at that.
Score: DuBois Area 26-15
Hickory at Slippery Rock — Hickory beat the Rockets three times last year by a combined score of 124-7.
The Hornets are still a good team, but the Rockets have vastly improved.
Score: Slippery Rock 23-18
Steel Valley at Summit Academy — The Ironmen could be the class of the Allegheny Conference ... and maybe the WPIAL.
It will be a long afternoon for the Knights.
Score: Steel Valley 36-8
