Wolak, McDowell in PIAA tourney

Seven Fields resident Brian McDowell and Slippery Rock High School junior Jacob Wolak have punched their tickets to the PIAA Boys Golf Championships with authority.

McDowell, an Eden Christian student, won the WPIAL Class AA individual title with a 5-over-par 75 at Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley. He beat out Jackson Bould of Quaker Valley by a stroke.

Butler resident and North Catholic golfer Ethan Ellis tied for fifth with a 78.

Wolak earned his third straight trip to the state tourney by tying for second in the District 10 Class AA tourney at Meadville Country Club. He carded a 149 with rounds of 77 and 72.

Wolak became the first golfer in the 57-year history of Slippery Rock's program to qualify for the PIAA tourney in three successive years.

The PIAA tourney is Oct. 18 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

The Rockets' Jack Hadley tied for 14th in District 10 with a 170. The top eight placers in the district advance to the state tourney.

Nick Kingerski scored the game-winning goal with 28 minutes remaining Saturday as Slippery Rock's boys soccer team defeated Fairview, 2-1.Kaleb Kuhn also scored for the Rockets (7-2-2). Connor Wallace made five saves in goal.Slippery Rock plays Tuesday night at Grove City for the top spot in the region.Butler 3, Pine-Richland 1 — Aidan Wisda, Aiden Soley and Gavin Varner all scored for the Golden Tornado (9-3). Jack Beneigh had two assists and Landon Mohney one.Butler hosts North Allegheny Tuesday night.Seneca Valley 14, North Hills 0 — The unbeaten Raiders (11-0) cruised to victory. Seneca Valley plays Tuesday at Fox Chapel.Mars 1, Indiana 0 — This section win lifted the Planets to 7-3 in league play, 8-3-2 overall. Mars plays Tuesday at Highlands.

Rosie Carden tallied five aces, four kills, 12 assists and 12 digs as Karns City defeated Union, 3-1. Scores were 25-21, 25-14, 18-25, 25-16.Natalie Hess added six kills, two blocks and a dig, Emma Johns two aces, three kills, seven assists, two blocks and two digs, Ashley Fox five kills and 15 digs, Ava Fox six kills and 10 digs for the Gremlins.
