Grapevine Center sets annual rally

In recognition of mental illness awareness week, the Grapevine Center of Butler is holding its annual “Remembrance and Celebration of Life” rally from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at the carousel shelter in Alameda Park.

The rally is being held to remember the 11 Grapevine members who died in the past year and draw attention to mental illness. Among those who died were three people under the age of 30 who had fatal drug overdoses. A proclamation that county Commissioner Kevin Boozel will present to Bette Peoples, Grapevine Center executive director, will include an appeal for support for people with mental illness and drug and alcohol dependencies who have isolated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Brenda Luther, vice president of clinical services at Beacon Health Options.
