Butler Area School District and BC3 respond to online threat

click here.Butler Area School District and Butler County Community College both took safety precautions after a “general threat to schools” was posted online on Thursday morning.At 9:49 a.m., an email went out from the BC3 alert system stating that the BC3 Main Campus would “evacuate and close for the day in response to info received by BC3 officials” as “a level of precaution.” The statement about closing precautions was also posted on the college's Twitter account.Local law enforcement informed Butler Area officials that a threat was posted online Sept. 30, according to a message sent to school district families by Superintendent Brian White.According to the statement, the threat did not specifically identify Butler Area School District or any of the district's schools, but “appears that it may have been posted from somebody in our area.”School police officers and local law enforcement have been asked to increase their patrols around Butler Area schools, White said in the statement.“At this time, all of our schools will continue to operate on a normal schedule today,” White wrote. “If law enforcement feels additional actions are needed at any point, we will follow their recommendations.”White said that the school district takes all threats seriously.“Should this be the genesis of one of our students, we will engage in all appropriate disciplinary action under the student code of conduct and under Pennsylvania State Law,” he said. “Additionally restitution for additional costs to the school district and law enforcement will be pursued.”
