State trooper arrested, charged with forgery
A state trooper from Mercer County has been arrested and suspended without pay for allegedly altering a military order he received as a member of the Ohio Air National Guard and forging the signature of a non-commissioned officer.
Trooper Jamhal Simon, 35, of West Middlesex Township was charged with forgery and tampering with records, both misdemeanors, by the state police's Bureau of Integrity and Professional Standards, Internal Affairs Division.
He was arrested Sept. 15. The alleged offenses took place May 24 in Jackson Township.
The charges were filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge D. Neil McEwen in Grove City. A preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
Police said Simon's military command has been notified about the charges.
Simon enlisted in the state police in March 2015 and graduated as a member of the 142nd cadet class. He is assigned to the patrol section of Troop D, Mercer. His suspension is pending resolution of the criminal charges against him, police said.
