Butler council OKs firemen for retirement

BUTLER — The retirement of two firemen — Lt. James A. Reeder and Capt. Scott A. Marshall — was approved by the city council at a meeting Thursday.

Marshall was employed by the Butler Bureau of Fire for 30 years and Reeder worked for the bureau for 15 years.

Councilman Robert A. Dandoy, director of public safety, spoke to the service of the two retirees.

“I'd like to thank both for their service to the city,” Dandoy said.

The city fire chief, Christopher Switala, said that the two firemen's retirement became official on Saturday.

As to the spaces the two retirees are leaving behind and the future of the bureau, “We have an existing list of full-time firefighters. We have an application list, and we'll choose from that list,” Switala said.

Other business at the meeting included the approval to demolish a building at 126 Hickory St., the approval of new LED lights at Ritts Park and accepting a bid to remove and dispose of debris from culverts that are downstream from Ritts Park.
