Fundraising campaign created for fire victim
Katherine Hedrick, 48 of Butler, had accumulated a lifetime of possessions that were destroyed in an apartment fire on July 8.
Six units responded to the fire, which was reported at 5:19 p.m. at 150 Dusty Lane, according to county emergency services.
“I was asleep, but got out with my two dogs safe and sound,” said Hedrick, who had no renter's insurance.
The small rental unit is now a burned-out shell.
“The first concern I had after the fire was finding a place for my two dogs,” said Hedrick, who believes it was an electrical fire. “I've been living with my mother since the fire.”
Hedrick suffered mild smoke inhalation, but her injuries were the least of her worries, she said.
“After the fire, I was in a state of shock, but the problem that's been hardest is finding a place that accepts (Housing and Urban Development),” she said.
Her son, Jesse Traxler-Callender, who is based in Texas, is trying to assist his mother through the online donation website GoFundMe at https://tinyurl.com/yj5edk3h. The donation will assist Hedrick with a rental deposit on a new apartment.
“I feel terrible, I miss being at my own place, entertaining friends, and it's going to be hard having to start all over again without knowing where to begin,” Hedrick said.
