Boil water advisory issued for parts of Harmony
HARMONY — A water line break Thursday near the intersection of Nickle Road and Meadowbrook Lane has resulted in a boil water advisory for the area.
In a news release, Harmony Borough Water Authority said to not drink the water without boiling it first. Residents should bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using; or use bottled water. Either option should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice.
Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms.
Guardians of infants and young children and people at increased risk, such as pregnant women, some of the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems, should seek advice from their health care advisors about drinking the water. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
All Harmony Borough Water Authority customers located to the east of Interstate 79 and on Meadowbrook Lane, Precision Drive, Evergreen Mill Road, Smith Avenue, Hartmann Road, Senns Way, Evans City Road and Wahl Road are affected by the advisory. The leak is currently being repaired.
“We will flush the system thoroughly to reestablish disinfectant residuals,” a statement from the Water Authority said. “We will be sampling the finished water for the presence of coliform bacteria and disinfectant levels and will notify you when the boil water advisory is lifted.”
