Pirates release veteran Polanco
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates released veteran outfielder Gregory Polanco — the last player remaining from the team's 2013-15 playoff run — before Saturday night's game with St. Louis.
Polanco, 29, hit .208 with 11 homers, 36 RBI and a team-leading 14 stolen bases this season. In his eight-year career with the Pirates, he hit .241 with 156 doubles, 19 triples, 96 homers, 362 RBI and 98 stolen bases.
His 697 games in right field rank fourth on the Pirates' all-time list, trailing Roberto Clemente, Paul Waner and Dave Parker.
