Rural Slippery Rock home damaged in kitchen fire
While volunteer firefighters from the Slippery Rock and Unionville fire departments battled a fire at a two-story home Thursday night, firefighters from seven other departments were trucking water to the rural home.
The fire, which started in a home on Saniga Road in Slippery Rock Township at 8:48 p.m., was extinguished in an hour and a half, and no one was injured, said Ryan Hanchoski, chief of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company.
“It started in the kitchen area. We had heavy fire in the kitchen area,” Hanchoski said.
The fire damaged the kitchen and burned through the floor into a rear second-floor room, he said.
He said the homeowner was home when the fire started, but escaped without injury.
The Harrisville, Prospect, West Sunbury, Clintonville, North Washington, Eau Claire and Chicora volunteer fire companies used tanker trucks to deliver water to the home because there are no water resources in the area, Hanchoski said.
