A 30-year-old Butler man who pleaded guilty to a felony charge of corruption of minors in an alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in 2019 in Butler was ordered to register as a Megan’s Law Tier I sexual offender.

Dalton Alan Best pleaded guilty to corruption of minors, but a felony charge of statutory sexual assault was dismissed Aug. 12 in Common Pleas Court. Butler police filed the charges.

Judge Timothy McCune sentenced Best to serve 11.5 to 23 months in the county prison followed by 60 months of probation, and was given credit for 23 months of time served in the prison. Best was released from jail when his $25,000 bail was reduced to nonmonetary bail in July this year, and was not taken into custody after his Aug. 12 sentencing.

McCune said Best must register with the Pennsylvania state police Megan’s Law section as a Tier 1 sexual offender for 15 years. Tier I is the lowest of three tiers based on the nature and severity of sexual offenses under Megan’s Law.
