Middlesex Twp. seeks residents for parks and rec committee

Middlesex Township is seeking letters of interest from residents who are interested in serving on a five-member Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.

The group would provide recommendations and develop plans for new updates to Middlesex Township Community Park, located behind the Middlesex municipal building at 133 Browns Hill Road.

“As we look to grow our park, we need to get the input from the public,” township manager Adam Hartwig said. “It's their park, and we want to know what they want in the park, so that's what we're hoping to accomplish with the committee.”

The group would report to the board of supervisors to provide their recommendations. Middlesex Township originally had a similar advisory group that met several years ago, but with the advent of upcoming parks and recreation projects, Hartwig is looking for fresh input from current residents.

“We'd certainly like to get a group and see what other interest is out there,” Hartwig said. “Maybe there are new people who have moved in recently who are trying to get involved in the township, and maybe they are interested in parks and rec. We want to get some input from the public about what we are trying to do.”

Recent parks projects started in Middlesex Township include the initiative to refurbish the trail near the municipal building as well as efforts to build a new playground.

Hartwig said the township recently worked with the occupational therapy graduate program at Chatham University to put a plan together for an all-inclusive playground that would serve children with special needs.

These projects are already in the works, but members of the advisory committee would have some involvement in providing recommendations for their completion.

Interested residents can send in letters of interest to the township, or reach out directly by email or phone to the municipal building. Hartwig said that he'd like to have all letters by the beginning of September.
