Prospect man sentenced in 2 drunk driving cases
A Prospect man was sentenced Thursday in county Common Pleas Court to a total of 12 months minus one day to 24 months minus one day in prison followed by 54 months of probation in a plea agreement that combined two drunk driving cases filed by state police.
Robert L. Murray, 58, was sentenced in the two cases that took place Feb. 27 and June 28, 2020.
In the Feb. 27 case, Murray pleaded guilty to a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. Other felony, misdemeanor and summary charges were dismissed.
Police said they detected Murray driving 89 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone on I-79 between the Cranberry/Mars and Evans City exits and pulled him over after he crossed the center line.
While police were checking his vehicle information, he fled onto Little Creek Road, turned onto Whitestown Road, which eventually turned into Harmony Road, and turned onto Prospect Road and then drove home with police following him. The pursuit went on for 14 miles, police said.
In the June 2020 case, Murray pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of DUI and a summary charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license. Several other summary charges were dismissed.
Judge Timothy McCune handed down the sentence. Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Simon prosecuted the case. Murray was represented by attorney Christopher Urbano.
