UPMC to pay $2.6M for sports complex signage
CRANBERRY TWP — As part of UPMC's sponsorship agreement, the Passavant name will adorn the Graham Park sports complex for 10 years with a price tag of $2.6 million.
The agreement, under which UPMC will pay $260,000 per year as sponsor of the UPMC Passavant Sportsplex at Graham Park, also includes the updating of Graham Park signage to include the health network's sponsorship along two park entrance signs, one sign visible from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and myriad secondary signage such as field signs and those including rules and regulations.
Moreover, UPMC will be featured on 12 signs at fields with the right to name additional fields in the sports complex if and when they are built.
It also largely forbids the township from accepting sponsorships from UPMC's competitors. However, with respect to Miracle League Field — where Cranberry has limited control of sponsors, and the dek hockey rink, which was built with the cooperation of UPMC competitors — the agreement contains some exceptions.
For the health network, it was an appropriate sponsorship opportunity given the intersection between health and recreation.
“UPMC Passavant is committed to keeping communities around the region healthy with our high-quality medical care,” a spokeswoman said. “A big part of that mission also focuses on making connections within those communities and providing important resources for residents.
“Through this partnership with Graham Park in Cranberry Township, we are able to promote fitness and exercise at a world-class facility to everyone, not just our patients. It's a win-win for UPMC Passavant and Cranberry Township.”
Beyond the updated signage within the park, the sponsorship agreement includes a provision for Cranberry to work “in good faith” with UPMC to update the Passavant sign on Route 19, as well as agreements for the township to share UPMC content monthly via a digital channel such as the township's website or social media.
Dan Santoro, township manager, said he was “really excited” by the new sponsorship, and praised township staff for working to obtain it.
