Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company will host Community Day
Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company will bring summer fun to residents this August.
The fire company will host Middlesex Township Community Day from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 15. It will feature a car show, kid-friendly activities, a raffle, live music and more.
The festival will be free to attend, and will take place at Middlesex Community Park at 133 Browns Hill Road.
The fire company discussed plans with members of the Middlesex Township board of supervisors Wednesday night. They plan to rent a bounce house and dunk tank along with festival games for children.
“We used to just have a Touch a Truck event, but we are trying to get the community more involved,” said fire company president Rich Bitzer.
The Touch a Truck event, during which children could get up close to fire trucks and construction vehicles, was canceled last year due to COVID-19. It will take place again as part of the festival at the fire department property across the street from the municipal building.
“We didn't do Touch a Truck last year because of COVID, and we decided to do a parade instead, and drove around Route 8,” said Judy Sundquist, head of the the special events committee. “This year, because we're allowed to go out and do things, we thought why don't we invite everybody to us instead of having a parade?”
Vendor booths and games will last throughout the festival, and the band Smokin Section, whose members include Middlesex Township volunteer fireman Greg Stegman, will perform in the evening.
“We want everybody to have a good time — kids might not be interested in the car show, so we'll have games for kids under 12,” Sundquist said.
The fire company already has some preliminary ideas for more events later in the year, including a Halloween event and a Christmas parade.
Vendors and groups interested in performing at the festival can reach out on the Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company Facebook page.
