Big inning dooms Pirates

NEW YORK — It was a forgettable sixth inning for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The New York Mets scored 10 runs in the frame against three Pirate pitchers and were leading 13-3 with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning when rain — again — descended on Citi Field.

Francisco Lindor, the Mets’ struggling shortstop, homered as part of the big sixth inning for the Mets and drove in four runs.

Jonathan Villar also homered twice for New York.

JT Brubaker was in line for the loss for Pittsburgh. The right-hander was hit with six earned runs in five-plus innings before he was chased in the sixth.

Sam Howard relieved him and only got one out while giving up five more runs.

Kyle Keller finally ended the barrage, but he also gave up a run.

The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 4:10 p.m. to make up Friday’s rainout.

The Mets have had 13 games rained out this season.
