5 big road projects in county new, ongoing for PennDOT
Gov. Tom Wolf on Thursday highlighted a number of road projects in PennDOT District 10, including five projects in Butler County that have continued or begun in 2021.
The two continuing Butler County road projects highlighted by the governor were both in Cranberry Township: The replacement of the Freedom Road bridge over the turnpike, which is expected to be completed this summer with a total project cost of $13.1 million, and the replacement of the Interstate 79 bridges over North Boundary Road, also expected to be completed this summer with a cost of $8.4 million.
“The importance of good roads and bridges cannot be overstated,” said Wolf. “This work will ensure continued delivery of goods and services to hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians and keep the region’s economy thriving.”
In southern Butler County, Wolf highlighted the beginning of the Balls Bend project from Route 8 to Officer Edward Brooks Drive in Middlesex Township. According to PennDOT, that project is expected to cost $26.5 million with anticipated completion in spring 2025. Cranberry appears again on the list with the resurfacing of Route 19, which is expected to be finished in November with an $8.4 million price tag.
Clinton Township also appears on the list with the replacement of bridges carrying Saxonburg Boulevard and Wylie and Brewer Roads over Rocky Run, which cost $1.85 million and should be finished by fall. In Butler Township, bridge-preservation work on Route 422 over South Benbrook Road made the list in the same project as the preservation of Route 322 over the Clarion River in Clarion County. That project, according to PennDOT, should be finished this summer, costing $821,876.
