A now 54-year-old man from Pittsburgh serving a sentence of life in prison without parole for killing another Pittsburgh man in 1984 in Cranberry Township when the defendant was 17 will be resentenced in October under a 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that juveniles can't be sentenced to life without parole.

Raymond Williams, an inmate at SCI Somerset, will be resentenced by Common Pleas Judge William Robinson on Oct. 18.

Robinson scheduled the resentencing hearing Thursday during a hearing that Williams attended virtually from the state prison in Somerset County.

Williams and his brother, Ronald Williams, who was 32 years old at the time of the homicide, were found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death by a county jury in 1985. Sentences for both defendants later were reduced to life in prison without parole.
