Cranberry Women's Club awards 2 scholarships
CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Women's Club, despite facing a drop in revenue because of the pandemic, still awarded two scholarships to local students.
Kaitlyn Moore and Alexander Porter, both of Seneca Valley High School, each received a $500 scholarship from the women's club in May.
Kathleen Perry of the women's club said both students will attend college in the fall, and said the club admires the two students for their hard work and community involvement.
Perry said the group, which is involved in several community aspects, believes that young adults should have the drive to help and be active participants in their communities.
The group managed to fund the scholarships not through its typical fundraisers, which were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but via its cookie sale at Christmas.
Perry said the group made sure to prioritize education with its limited funds because the women's club has always put a strong emphasis on education and programs to benefit children.
In another attempt to aid education, the group wrote $50 checks to community elementary schools to help financially challenged students participate in the book fair.
