Brewers 'walk' by Pirates
MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers walked their way to a win Friday night at Miller Park.
Tied at 2 with the Pittsburgh Pirates entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Brewers (36-27) drew six walks — three in a row with the bases loaded — to highlight a five-run inning and a 7-4 victory.
Christian Yelich snapped the tie with a two-run double with the bases loaded. Following an intentional walk, the Pirates' Clay Holmes walked in a run.
Trevor Cahill replaced Holmes on the hill and walked in two more runs before finally getting out of the inning.
Ke'Bryan Hayes hit a two-run homer for the Pirates (23-39) in the eighth, but the Bucs dropped their fifth straight game. Ben Gamel and Gregory Polanco hit solo home runs for Pittsburgh.
Milwaukee starter Brandon Woodruff was outstanding otherwise, allowing just four hits over seven innings, walking none and striking out five.
Chase De Jong pitched five innings for the Pirates, allowing two runs in getting a no-decision.
Josh Hader recorded his 15th save for Milwaukee.
The teams continue their three-game weekend series at 4:10 p.m. Saturday. Chad Kuhl (0-3) will pitch for the Pirates.
