6:55 p.m. May 18 — Police responded to a one-vehicle crash on Pittsburgh Road in Butler Township. Police said they will cite Paul Lefever, 70, of Butler, with careless driving, speeding, illegal activities and an uninspected vehicle after he lost control of his pickup that was pulling a trailer full of soil.Police said the truck hit a curb and an embankment while going down Armco Hill. Police said Lefever was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries.
May 13 — Kevin L. Russell, 37, of Pittsburgh, was charged with a first-offense, controlled substance DUI stemming from a May 10 traffic stop Route 28 on in Buffalo Township. Police said they stopped the vehicle because a check of the registration showed its operator had a suspended license. Police said they instead found Russell to be the driver.Police said Russell had admitted to smoking marijuana about an hour before driving. Police said field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired, but Russell refused to have his blood tested. Police said no drugs were found in the vehicle in a later search.
May 24 — Charles W. Shaffer, 46, of Emlenton, was charged with simple assault in relation to a May 23 domestic dispute. Police were dispatched to FasterCare in Butler Township, where Shaffer's wife was seeking treatment for injuries she allegedly told police she received when her husband assaulted her. Police said the two were arguing over her phone, and Shaffer grabbed her by the wrists and shoved her multiple times. Police said doctors confirmed the wife had a fracture to her right wrist in addition to bruising and swelling.9:46 a.m. May 22 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Franklin Road in Slippery Rock Township. Police said they cited Sarah M. Hasbrouck, 22, of Slippery Rock, with following too closely after her vehicle rear-ended one driven by Benjamin L. Hogg, 33, of Slippery Rock.9:34 p.m. May 21 — Police responded to a one-vehicle crash on Beatty Road in Brady Township, and cited Nathan A. Fajohn, 51, of Slippery Rock, for leaving the scene of an accident after witnesses saw him leave the scene of the crash. Police said Fajohn's vehicle had exited the road and crashed into an embankment.8:29 p.m. May 21 — Police responded to a one-vehicle crash on North Washington Road in Concord Township. Police said Ryan A. Miano, 29, of West Sunbury, was cited for leaving his lane after his vehicle exited the road, entered the yard of a residence and hit a fence. Police said Miano was uninjured, but his passenger, Andreigha L. Mihaly, 28, of Oil City, suffered a suspected serious injury from the crash. Mihaly was taken by ambulance to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.May 16 — Anthony R. Tiano, 26, of Fairview, W.Va., was charged with a first-offense DUI stemming from an April 22 traffic stop on I-79 North in Cranberry Township. Police said they stopped the vehicle for crossing the fog line and center line. Police said field sobriety tests indicated Tiano was impaired, and a later blood test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.229%. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08% is considered intoxicated.12:18 p.m. May 15 — Police responded to a motorcycle crash on Eau Claire Road in Venango Township. Police said they cited driver Paul E. Beedy, 67, of Greenville, with leaving the lane after he lost control of his motorcycle and it fell to the side. Police said both Beedy and his passenger were taken to a hospital by ambulance, both for apparent minor injuries.
