Students qualify for Ninja championships

Two Mars Area School District students qualified for the National Ninja League World Championships, which will be held in late June in Lawrence Township, N.J.

In the Northeast Division, fifth-grader Kohlee Edwards placed second out of all Mature Kid females. Second-grader Maci Kotula took eighth place among all Kid females.

Both students train at Steel City Ninja.

The national championships bring together competitors in ages 6 through 8 and 9 through 10 divisions.

Participants must complete Stage 1 course runs and skill challenges to earn a spot in Stage 2 and Stage 3 events.

Youth Arts Council to host exhibit

The Andy Warhol Museum’s 2020-2021 Youth Arts Council will present the exhibit “Reprogrammed” through Sept. 6.

The show, coordinated by members of the Youth Arts Council, including Mars Area High School junior Audrey Gehm, features a mix of imagery, creative writing and interactive art.

“Reprogrammed” is centered on the idea of responding to constant change and the need to adapt.

The Warhol’s Youth Arts Council is a yearlong leadership program that invites a small team of high school students from across Pittsburgh to go behind the scenes, collaborate with museum staff and artists, create art and develop public programs and events for other teens.

Participants receive stipends, gain professional experience working in a museum and learn new skills and techniques.
