Knoch High School students in Brad Pflugh's history class gathered at Summit Presbyterian Church in Jefferson Township on Thursday afternoon, May 20, 2021, to place American flags on the graves of each and every veteran buried in the church cemetery.Pflugh and the students were joined by David Foley, South Butler County School District superintendent, and Fred Caesar of the Saxonburg Historical Society. Pflugh has carried out the project for several years in hopes of spurring the students' curiousity regarding those who served in the military in all U.S. wars.

Miller's Shoes, located at 215 South Main Street in Butler, still has partially empty storefront windows Thursday, May 20, 2021. The store has been closed since January after a fire damaged three of the neighboring buildings. Owner Jimmy Chiprean said the 129-year-old store will see a grand re-opening event in mid- to late July. The heavy smoke from the fire didn't damage Chiprean's stock, but caused a smoky smell that rendered many shoes, boots, clothing and accessories unsalable.
