Major gets most votes in 2 counties
Republican candidate Abby Major of Ford City received the most votes in Butler and Armstrong counties in the special election to replace Jeff Pyle to represent the 60th District in the state House of Representatives, according to unofficial results Tuesday.
The district includes parts of Butler, Armstrong and Indiana counties, but results from Indiana County were not available Tuesday night.
In Butler County, Major received 1,629 votes to defeat Democratic candidate Frank Prazenica, who received 385 votes, and Libertarian candidate Andrew Hreha, who received 66 votes, according to unofficial results.
In Armstrong County, Major received 6,546 votes, Prazenica received 1,308 votes and Hreha received 348 votes.
Major served as office manager and chief of staff to Pyle in 2008 and from 2012 until his retirement this year.
Prazenica is a Freeport Area School Board member who worked as superintendent of the South Butler County School District during his 40 years in public education.
The seat became open after Pyle retired in March just three months into his eighth term in office, due to health reasons.
During the race, Major said her priorities included election integrity and opposing Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed income tax increase, while Prazenica had prioritized focusing on job opportunities for residents of the district as well as not raising taxes and pursuing funding for school districts.
