Harrisville has sweet events coming up
Harrisville may have more events in its park this year than ever before.
Council member Terri Thompson, who is also chairwoman of the special events committee, said after the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancelation of two of the borough's signature events, the group is planning new activities to take place in Harrisville Community Park.
The special events committee spoke to council recently, with a goal to provide entertainment for residents.
“We have been discussing since January trying to plan some things to get our community back together again,” Thompson said. “Right now we're just focused on bringing families into the park.”
Thompson, said the Harrisville Community Days that takes place in July normally is the area's biggest event, followed by the annual community yard sale.
While those events are planned to return this year, Thompson said the committee also is planning to have live music in the park two Fridays a month, featuring musical artists and food trucks.
Thompson said these events are planned to run in the summer, but the committee is whipping up more ideas for later as well.
“We're looking at adding some additional events to go into the fall,” Thompson said. “It looks like we'll be going forward with it as long as nothing changes.”
Thompson said although the Harrisville community is small, the residents are close-knit.
“We're a one stoplight town, but we're very supportive of a community,” Thompson said.
