CRANBERRY TWP — For Mother's Day, why not treat your mom to an hour's session under a blade that will make hundreds of tiny cuts to her face?

She'll probably thank you for it.

Really.

The process is called microblading 3D, and it is used to enhance the appearance of eyebrows.

It's one of services offered by Nikki Wine at her Lux Glambar, 2618 Rochester Road, that Mom might appreciate as a gift on her special day.

“I do everything but hair: lashes, brows, manicures, pedicures, microblading 3D,” Wine said. “And my business is acrylic-free. There's no odor or chemicals used in the shop.

“Some people can't stand the smell, or they have respiratory issues, so they haven't been able to go into a manicure salon.”

Wine said microblading 3D is used to create, enhance or reshape the appearance of eyebrows both in their shape and color. Some of Wine's clients may have very thin eyebrows or very light-colored brows.Other clients may be suffering from alopecia, which caused their hair to fall out or are undergoing chemotherapy, which causes hair loss. That's where Wine's knife skills and artistic touch come in.Wine creates each eyebrow hair by hand using a blade to create a tiny slice in the skin, which she then colors in with pigment. The pigment goes into the upper region of the dermis, so it fades more rapidly than traditional tattooing techniques, which deposit pigment deeper. The process takes about an hour.“It's really, really cool,” Wine said. For mother's who might be hesitant to go under the knife, even if it was a gift, Wine said, “Manicures and pedicures make a truly great gift.“So does a lash lift and tint, which is like a perm for your lashes,” she said.

Maybe your mother's brows and lashes are fine just they way they are. So, instead, maybe she'd like a fashionable item from Mainstream Boutique, 20325 Route 19. Owner Christine Dunn said her business is a women's clothing and accessories boutique catering to customers from ages 20 through 70.“We serve a broad range,” said Dunn.“We offer a variety of styles from casual denim shorts through dresses, leisurewear and, of course, jewelry,” Dunn said.As far as a Mother's Day gift, Dunn said, “You can't beat our Mac and Me denim and Mac and Me jewelry. They are exclusive to Mainstream Boutique.“They are all handmade, nickel- and lead-free, and the best jeans in town,” she said. And, she said, camo and tie dye are always popular choices. With the recent loosening of COVID-19 restrictions, she has noticed more customer demand for brightness.“They are looking freshness and bright colors as we are coming out of this pandemic,” said Dunn. There's a similar big demand for lash services, said Lux Glambar's Wine.“Lash services, lash extensions, I do a ton of lashes,” Wine said. “It's a big part of my business.”Her clientele ranges in age from 3 to 70 or 80, she said.Wine said people can make a booking online at the Lux Glambar website. And in a few months' time, she hopes to be able to offer her clients massage services as well.
