Rock baseball nets 1st shutout of year
ERIE — Christian Seelhorst and Andy McClymonds combined on Slippery Rock University's first shutout of the season during a baseball doubleheader split Saturday at Mercyhurst.
The Rock (18-11, 9-9) won the first game, 3-0, before dropping the nightcap, 6-2, to the Lakers (22-13, 13-10).
Koby Bubash and Luke Trueman collected hits in both games for SRU. Truenan drilled a two-run homer in the first game.
Abraham Mow had two hits for SRU in the second game. McClymonds took the loss, working 4.1 innings.
SRU faces a busy week to close out the regular season. The Rock hosts Clarion in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Monday at Critchfield Park and will play 10 games this week.
SRU (13-27, 9-23) split a twinbill Saturday with Mercyhurst, winning the first game, 5-2, and dropping the nightcap, 7-6.The Rock got swept by the Lakers in Erie on Sunday, losing 10-5 and 3-1, ending SRU's season.Graduating seniors Leah Vith and Alexa Guglielmino were honored before Saturday's games, then combined for eight hits, four runs scored and four RBI on the day. Kaitlyn Bowman added four hits and two RBI.Slippery Rock High School graduate Julianna Hutchinson had a two-run double in the second game for The Rock.Giglielmino and Maggie Moore had three hits each for SRU Sunday. Freeport graduate Allison DeJidas hit a three-run homer for all of Mercyhurst's runs in the nightcap.The Lakers are 17-19 overall, 16-16 in PSAC play.
