Butler County Home Show open for the weekend

Rick and Joyce Green, of Summit Township, check out the cool and comfort gel beds Friday at the first day of the Butler Home Show. The show will continue until 5 p.m. Sunday in Evans City.
Over 100 firms represented

Summit Township residents Joyce and Rick Green dropped by the first day of the Butler County Home Show Friday in search of new windows for a home renovation.

They ended up reclined on a gel memory foam mattress for about a half-hour speaking with a salesman, and left the convention having ordered a new mattress and sheets.

As she put it, you never know what you'll find at a home show.

“We ended up buying a bed,” Joyce Green said with a laugh. “It's nice to have everyone in one place, so you don't have to look all over and call a bunch of places.”

The Butler County Home Show started Friday and continues until 5 p.m. Sunday at the Family Sports Center in Evans City. More than 100 companies were set to have booths at the annual event, representing everything from beds and windows to beauty supplies and food.

The coronavirus pandemic caused the cancelation of many convention-style events, although the home show was still held in 2020. However, some of the salespeople manning booths at the show said the return of in-person events is good for business.

“We never lose money coming to these types of things,” said Buck Sarver, owner of Mars Lumber Inc., who had multiple styles of wood on display for viewers.Maria Garcia, a saleswoman with national hairstyling company Profashion, said even people who attended sales conventions last year were not completely comfortable watching demonstrations or even testing products. However, the Profashion booth got a lot of attention this year. “We weren't getting a lot of shows,” Garcia said of last year. “But now, they seem comfy with us doing their hair.”Denise Pogue, a resident of Center Township, said she wanted to check out the home show to see multiple sellers in one place. She is planning to have some of her kitchen redone, and like the Greens, she was glad to have a hub with many different options.“I've been wanting to get my cupboards done, so I came here,” Pogue said. “It's a good way to see a lot of options instead of having to call around.”

Stylist Makayla Tull, of Profashion, styles the hair of Bonnie Sutton, of Prospect, during the Butler Home Show on Friday. The show is at the Family Sports Center in Evans City.
