Rethinking kitchen design

One recently popular kitchen feature is full height backsplashes, such as the one shown here in Calacatta Translux quartz from Armina Stone.

Some say the kitchen is the heart of the home. It's where families gather, experiences are shared and memories are made.

It's also where many people have been spending time while in quarantine.

“I think it gave them time to think and redesign their homes,” said Kelli Rau, marketing manager for Armina Stone.

When it comes to things such as kitchen remodeling, companies such as Armina Stone are there to help.

Armina Stone, which opened a location off Route 19 in Cranberry Township in March, imports and manufactures stone and quartz for residential and commercial projects.

The Cranberry location alone offers about 2,000 slabs in 200 colors.

“We fabricate slabs into countertops,” said Emre Basman, owner of Armina Stone. “We have levels for all kinds of budgets.”

With granite, marble, quartz and quartzite imported from across the world, Basman described Armina Stone as a “one-stop shop.”

He also said the company's large inventory and variety of colors is its superpower.

If the Cranberry location doesn't have something in stock, inventory can be pulled from Armina's Cheswick and Robinson locations. Basman estimated Armina Stone has about 10,000 slabs in 500 colors overall.

“(Clients) are amazed with what we have,” Basman said. “Our business has been growing for the last five years.”

The special thing about Armina Stone is the products it sells are approved by Basman from start to finish, according to Rau.

“He visits the quarries,” Rau said. “He hand-selects these slabs.”

Whether it's for kitchens or bathrooms, Armina Stone is involved in the renovation process from templating and fabrication to installation.

Designing a new kitchen can be challenging. Basman said that's why Armina Stone offers guidance for clients.

“We have in-house designers who can help them to make that process flawless,” Basman said.

Regularly updating the company's new website and using social media helps keep clients well-informed about things such as trends.

Two current popular kitchen features, according to Basman and Rau, are full-height backsplashes and islands with a “waterfall” design.

In a waterfall design, the stone or quartz used as the countertop spills over the edge of the island to the floor.

The company is also launching “From the Top with Celina Pompeani” as a resource for those getting into a remodeling project.

The podcast will feature interviews with people in the renovation business: builders, designers, architects, etc.

“It's a nice platform to inform and educate people in the industry,” Rau said.

“From the Top” is expected to launch the last week of April and be available on Armina Stone's website and social media.

As Armina Stone celebrates one month at its Cranberry location, Basman said he's happy to be working in the area.

“We are very excited to serve the people of Cranberry Township,” Basman said.
