Numerous Mars Area High School students were inducted into the school's National Honor Society chapter during a special ceremony on April 13.

Inductees are senior Lily Bartholic; juniors Danielle Bednar, Derek Blake, Alyson Cooper, Jenna Coulter, Lucas Kuremsky, Abigail Miller, Allison Rice and Max Solich; and sophomores Gabrielle Chamblin, Piper Coffield, Ava Donnelly, Olivia Donnelly, Kathleen Ford, Effie Frank, Carla Genevro, Hayley Goerl, Lindsey Gourash, Emma Hannan, Kyra Harvey, Taylor Hollern, Gwenyth Howell, Lucy Huggins, Deven Koch, Talia Lamm, Madeline Leachman, Ava Lewis, Jessica McNulty, Kate Muchnok, Carlos Orr, Eva Ranalli, Mia Shterengarts, Shannon Sticinski, John Sutton, Armando Vargo, Olivia Wilson and Madeline Wolf.

Throughout the school year, NHS members participate in a variety of service-related projects.

Three members of Mars Area High School's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter placed at the 2020-2021 FBLA State Leadership Conference April 12 through 14.The team of junior Lauren Miko and sophomore Sophia Maestra earned fourth place in the business ethics event and qualified for the National FBLA Leadership Conference, scheduled for June 29 through July 2.Sophomore Hayley Nicklas took sixth and eighth place in the human resource management and retail management events, respectively.Other participants included sophomores Ava Donnelly and Olivia Donnelly in the sports and entertainment management event and sophomores Ainsley McGee, Jessica McNulty and Alexis Whitworth in the marketing competition.In an effort to limit any potential risk of COVID-19 exposure, students were asked to complete testing at their home schools or to submit video presentations online, depending upon the event.In a typical school year, FBLA students would have been invited to compete against their peers from other high schools in person at regional and state events.

The virtual PHEAA Financial Aid Jump Start presentation, hosted by the Mars Area High School guidance office on April 7, is available online.The program, which is geared toward parents of students in grades 9 through 11, discusses college costs, the latest headlines and trends, web resources, scholarships, grants, financial aid terminology, federal and student aid, FAFSA forms, loans, work study programs and more.To view the presentation, visit tinyurl.com/3e42scs6 and enter the password, “Jump2021.” For more information, contact Mark Varlotta, guidance counselor, at 724-625-1581.

Mars Area High School will host its 2021 Student Art Showcase from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 30.The event, a juried art show, will feature artworks such as paintings, ceramics, sculptures and drawings created by students in grades seven through 12.Artwork will also be featured as part of a digital show, which will be made available online at www.marsk12.org.Festivities will also include entertainment and other activities.Admission is free. All those planning to attend the event are reminded that appropriate use of face coverings and social distancing are required at all times.
