Tornado lacrosse nets 1st victory
BUTLER TWP — The chilling temperatures gave the Butler boys lacrosse team a warm feeling Wednesday night.
The Golden Tornado (1-4) scored their first victory of the season in bizarre fashion at Art Bernardi Stadium. Butler scored the tying goal with five seconds left in regulation and the winning tally with nine seconds left in overtime to defeat Fox Chapel, 8-7.
“It was cold, but it was worth it,” Butler coach Trevor Monteleone said. “This was one of the most satisfying wins I’ve experienced as a coach.”
Brody Allison, a senior, tied the game with five seconds left in regulation. Sophomore Grant Terwilliger scored the game-winner with nine seconds remaining in sudden-death overtime, following a turnover.
“We never lost focus, despite having not won a game, trying to tie it up late,” Monteleone said.
Julius Collins, a junior goalkeeper, made more than 10 saves to give Butler a chance to pull out the win.
The Golden Tornado play at Knoch on Friday.
