Adams Area Fire District plans siren activation system
ADAMS TWP — There's no cause for alarm: Adams Area Fire District is moving forward with plans for a siren activation system.
The siren, located at the top of the fire station, will soon be programmed to activate during severe weather, according to district fire chief Tim Llewellyn at Monday night's Adams Township supervisors meeting.
He said the fire district's board of directors recently approved purchasing the system.
“We'll be meeting with public safety later this week to hammer out the exact details,” Llewellyn said.
Llewellyn said the siren will not activate for fires, just weather events such as tornados. He indicated it will be one of the few of its kind in this area.
Details are still being discussed with township public safety, along with siren test dates.
“We are proceeding with preparations,” Llewellyn said. “There's a good group of minds there that will be meeting to discuss that.”
Training props
In other news, Llewellyn said the fire district is hoping to soon propose plans for future training props to be located at the district station along Route 228.
“We have some ideas we'd like to present,” Llewellyn said. “And (to) ask for approval to construct some training props to use... into the future.”
Llewellyn said the supervisors will be invited to a presentation when the proposed plans are ready.
