There is no way to prepare yourself to lose a loved one. That's the theme of Gary Burk III's newest song, “I'm Not Ready.”

Burk, a professional country musician from Chicora, said the song is about not being ready miss somebody, and the inspiration came from his own life.

About a year ago, Burk's father, Gary Jr., was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Shortly thereafter, the brother of one of Burk's friends died.

“I was upset and dealing with a lot of emotions. (My friend) called me and said, 'You need to write a song about this,'” Burk said. “You're never ready for that moment to lose a loved one.”

Burk set out to write a song to express what he was feeling and ended up with “I'm Not Ready.” The song is set to debut later this month through Burk's label, MC1 Nashville Sony Music, with an accompanying music video.

Burk shot the music video in February with his father and will show a sneak peak of it at a private show Saturday at The Beer Garden in Petrolia. The video was shot at The Beer Garden and in a barn owned by Snyder Excavating in West Sunbury.“The scenes show a person who was once there, but now is gone, almost like a memory” Burk said. “They are general things my dad and I would do, and then we repeat them all, but with my dad not there.”Burk partnered with local videographer Denny Pry to make the video. Pry, 26, was a year behind Burk when the two were at Moniteau High School and said the two have been talking about working on a video together for a while.Pry said it took about 12 hours one day to shoot the video and then a few more hours later to shoot some extra footage.“There was a lot of work involved,” Pry said. “Gary and his dad were super easy to work with.”“The Beer Garden was fantastic for letting us be there, the same with Snyder Excavation,” Pry said. “The whole community was very helpful.”One hundred tickets were pre-sold for the event Saturday, which will feature performances by Burk and local rock band City Limits, as well as the premier of Burk's new music video.
